What temp does your VR-4/TT run at.

Hi All,

Can you advise what the normal running temp is for a/your VR-4/TT? I have a ViPEC V44 stand alone computer in my car and the temp sensor is saying the engine is running at over 100 dec C under normal conditions. I need to see if this is correct. Maybe I need to change the temp sensor type in the ViPEC settings....

Depending on how hard I am running it for how long and outside temps, 185-210F

Hmmm that sounds more like what I would expect. 210F is approx 100C so I might have to try a different temp sensor setting.

OK plugged the laptop in and checked the settings. Was set to a Bosch type sensor and it displayed the correct ambient temp [I assume that's why this sensor type was chosen when tuning] but the Intake Air Temp showed about 4-5 deg higher. Set the Engine Coolant Temp sensor to use a Delphi sensor and the 2 sensors now show the same [within 1 deg] temp. Went for a casual drive and the max temp I got was 92 *C [197 *F] which seems more accurate. It seemed to behave like I would expect and sat at 92 while idleing for a few mins then dropped to around 88 when driving at 80kph.

Mine runs at 192-196 (88.9-91C) normally, which I think is hotter then it should be. I see other people saying they have temps in the 180s or even 170s when on the highway cruising.

My ECU reports 180-210. My gauge is about 15-20 degrees higher than what the ECU reports, but that's just the gauge I suppose.

Completely stock 1st gen [other than ECU].

My tuner emailed me back with a msg from Ben at EuroSpec in the UK that have been fitting and tuning the Vi-PEC ECUs and said the Engine Coolant Temp should be set to Bosch not Delphi but when set to the Bosch sensor it said the car was running at 119deg C while the Delphi sensor said 92. So I'm confused. My cooling system should be fairly health as less than 15k kms ago I replaced the entire cooling system with all stock parts. Water pump, thermistat, radiator and heat hoses and had the radiator proffesionaly reconditioned. My factory guage sits half way at all times. Before replacing all the above components it used to take ages to get to operating temp. Now it's less than a minute.

I see 183-189 on the highway and around town. Never checked where I'm at at WOT. Highest ive seen is 212 when my fans stopped working. This is with fmic and fans hotwired.
