Pro's and Con's of turbo blankets- lets hear em!

I am considering getting a couple turbo blankets when i upgrade turbos later this summer. I haven't heard too much either way on these. I think the tin can heat shields are ugly, and just looking at other options. so if you have an opinion based on facts, lets see where we end up! thanks.

They keep other stuff cool but may trap in excess heat and moisture. It's debatable if they can lead to cracking of a turbo.

Trapping in the heat is the point. The hotter you can keep the exhaust gases the quicker it flows. Which helps spool. And it keeps things around it cooler which is good as well

Note, I said excess. Obviously trapping in heat is the point, but too much heat can lead to failure of the turbine housing.

Well i did a little bit of reading on some other forums to get a little better grasp of what the issues would be.
    Pros-
More effective than ceramic coating for heat control.
lower temps under the hood. (no melted electronics, hoses, etc.)
exhaust temps elevated by 50*c give or take due to application.
looks better than a rusty tin can heat shield.

    Cons-
Will catch fire if oil leak occurs.
Will warp exhaust housing in extreme applications, leading me to believe over time this would also happen to a dd car.
could trap water and rust exhaust housing more quickly.
Engine temps also could run higher due to trapping the heat and that heat being transferred through the coolant system.

Comments about the cooking turbo guts and warped manifolds were also subject to the quality of the material used to make the manifolds. If a person was running their turbos to the heat limits, this would obviously be compounded by a turbo blanket of which the sole design is to restrict the dissipation of heat. It was also mentioned that the cheaper (e-bay) blankets would fall apart and not hold up. (no big surprise there) the quality blankets that I looked into used the crushed volcanic rock as well as high temp silica padding. the two blankets i looked at. Boost Logic T25 Turbo Blanket :: Gaskets and Misc Items :: Fabrication Parts :: Boost Logic and https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...6947a8c74423d6

I will continue to look into this, but i figured this is kind of summing up the direction of the thread so far.

    Does this assume converters/no converters?
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Ok I'm unsure if that would be with or w/out converter. I would guess without. I read a bunch of threads but I think that was on an rx7 or evo. The more restrictions the higher temps. I don't have a solid answer. Maybe if you dig into that specific topic you could enlighten all of us. Wish I knew more...
