question for those with C++ skeeeeelz

I, just like the quajillion other college students, do not want a bad grade. I am required to take C++ for my major but have no programming skills. I am familiar with computer hardware and troubleshooting but nothing regarding programming. The professor starts at the very beginning and said I should be okay but what do you guys think? Is much more prefer to bust ass and cut out a whole semester by not having to take a general computer systems course. Do you guys think I can do it? Are there any good sources of text or information I can read up on now to prep myself?

Its really not that hard. I took C++ and Java in college. Its mainly logic solving. C++ will mainly be all about syntax and semantics. Just keep the template of a script, and change the meat of it for all your scripts. I doubt you will really get into anything too complicated.

I think for my C++ class, one of the most challenging things was to click anywhere on a white screen and have a bunch of circles drawn in a complete diamond, going from mouse click 45deg up/right until it hit the boundary, then go 45deg up/left, 45deg down/left, 45deg down/right until you completed the diamond.

Simple stuff. In Java we had to make a graphing calculator program.

Edit: we also made simple programs in C++ like have it ask you to enter a year, and it will determine if the year is a leap year... With the following checks... divisible by 4, but not 100, unless it is divisible by 400.

We also did programs like entering a random date (MMDDYYYY) and it would tell you if it was a M/T/W/T/F/Sa/S

Thanks a bunch for the info, guys. Looks like that will be my first choice over calculus this summer. Personally, I'm excited to get to sit in front of a screen and book all day instead of just a book lol

I hate programming with a passion, but the C++ class I took was pretty easy. I think I ended up getting a 96% for the semester. So unless you have a hard ass instructor, it shouldn't be too bad. Just be prepared to do a lot of trial and error followed by a google search. The book we used for the class was pretty much worthless. Good luck!

lol I hear ya on the textbook issue. I've noticed a few texts recently that are ridiculous when it comes to helpfulness. I have heard good things about the professor so hopefully all goes smoothly. It's an accelerated course in the summer session but all that means is more time a day and more days a week so I should be alright.

I really doubt an entry level programming course in college will be all that bad. I only have experience with the more advanced classes, and even they were easy, and I'm not very good at C/C++

i took c++ back in highschool and loved it but dont remember much of it now i used to go home and write out the programs on paper for the next day
