Here. Western digital 1TB for $120
Welcome to Western Digital US Online Store

    Apples 1TB harddrive - $300
1TB SATA Hard Disk Drive Kit for Mac Pro - Apple Store (U.S.)

It's not because you are buying it from the manufacturer. They are just raping people because they are ignorant about what they are buying.

Where exactly do you want me to buy the Apple hardware so that it is cheaper? If you say Ebay I'm going to start rofling right at my desk.

Guess you better go on hating all car brands and their respective dealerships then, just as an example among many.

I'll take that as an I have no clue and I was talking out my ass.

No where did I say Apple was the only company that bends people over. They do bend people over though. If you want to talk about how other companys do it, start a thread and we can talk about it there.

Take it as you please. How you like to take it is none of my business.

If you want a factory original part, pay extra and buy it from the manufacturer. You want an equally good part without the little Apple logo on it, buy it from NewEgg or TigerDirect.

Exactly. Non Apple. Why Non Apple? The same product for cheaper.

So the extra money it worth it to you because you and a lot of people are not very tech savvy and owning and using a Mac is VERY easy. That's fine and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

As long as you realize it's not because your getting a superior product. You may be aware what your paying your premiums for, but not everybody is.

When I tell somebody Apple sucks it's because I look at it from a technical standpoint and see a $1,700 "professional" computer that is as good or worse than the $1,000 laptop my girlfriend uses to browse the internet and write papers on for school.

I have my own reasons why it's worth it to me (particularly being able to enjoy the world of Windows in addition to Mac OS X on a hardware-comparable machine). For those that aren't tech savvy... which the majority of computer users aren't... it's worth even more.

And *so what* if people - generally - can't spout off the technical reasons they'd pay extra, as long as they know those options are available to them. I believe Apple does an adequate job telling them that, but clearly its not the first few arguments that pop into a defenseless, "average" user's mind when needing to justify to PC-guy why they bought their Apple product.

Regardless, once you boil away all the fat, all that's left is your personal biases. And trust me, that's something I have absolutely no interest in trying to address.

That's the thing though. Apple doesn't tell them what they are paying a premium for. The "average, defenseless" Apple user thinks they are getting this comparable machine when they aren't. They think if they spend $1,500 on a Mac that all the easyness that comes with Apple is free and they are happy and the world is good.

6 Months or so I built a tower that was dedicated to processing CAD designs for 10-12 hours(sometimes longer than that). Spent about $1,500 on it, had one of the powerhouse i7's in it 6 gigs of ram everything else was pretty basic.

He had a buddy that had just spent $3,000 on a MacBook Pro and thought his computer was hot stuff and was going to roll all over his. I forget exactly what they were doing, but I think it was resizing and processing a couple thousand pictures(maybe it was video, I'm honestly not sure). The i7 rig took 5 minutes, the MacBook Pro took 20+ minutes and the MacBook guy was horrified. These are the kind of Mac people I run accross all the time in my tech classes and at work, so I take the libery to educate less tech savvy people.

I don't look down on people who use Macs, I just assume they don't understand what they have. Sometimes that is the case and sometimes it isn't.
