    Burnanating Oil

So, while tuning today, I kept noticing that I'd get an intermittent drop in power. AFR and pressure weren't changing so I was having trouble tracking it down. Later, I happened to notice a huge black smokescreen from the back of my car when the reduced power happened.

Right now I"m running ~14psi and sometimes I can go through a whole 2nd gear pull without it happening. Other times, it happens almost the entire run above 5psi or so.

PCV is what I'm suspecting since the motor has 180k+ and I have no idea if it's been replaced. Does anyone have any other thoughts? Krank PCV kit worth it?

PCV is a good start. It is an item that should be replaced every so often and it could be your problem, so you cant really go wrong. If it has failed, the boost pressure could be pressurizing the crankcase and blowing a decent amount of oil into the intake tract to be combusted.

Sounds very close to my issue. I do not monitor AFR though.

I replaced my PCV and nothing changed. I hope you (& I) get some more ideas here.

The intermittentness is what's gonna drive me nuts. A seal on the turbo that sometimes seals?

I remember reading (From IPO IIRC) that the stock PCV valve is only good until 14psi. If this doesn't work, I may invest in a catch can or krank vent system.

180k would be darn good for the OEM PCV valve. In my experience, they go bad (no rattle or weak spring) before that. I've heard of a few lasting to near 150k, but mine was bad at 120k, and I've seen a few that were bad at even less mileage.

Oil is blue smoke, if it is truely black smoke, that is Fuel. You are running rich. Stuck injector? misfiring coil/ptu? Log A/F. You are running rich when power drops.

Watching AFR on scanmaster. Never goes above 11.2. In a rearview mirror, it's hard to tell if it's blue or black. It's not like when it's blue it's shitting smurfs either.
