no, the government doesn't tell us everything. however, all you need is a cursory look at history to understand why we have to "finish" the job. it sucks, i agree. it still sucks less than what happens in 10-20 years if we prematurely ejaculate.

Are you implying that the lack of US troops some how allowed the terrorist groups to form? Do you really think that having thousands of US troops in the country would somehow stop terrorist groups from targeting the USA? I think this would have made it worse.

not a lack of US troops; a lack of proper closure to previous conflicts. germany after WWI. afghanistan after soviets pulled out. history is RIFE with examples of what happens when you don't finish the job correctly. troops aren't needed--ONCE THE JOB IS COMPLETE. i don't think we need an enduring presence...and i'm certain that i never insinuated that.

Unless you are of middle eastern descent then you can not possible know how they think!! I believe action needed to be taken against these groups and I believe the forces that are still there are taking orders they believe to be correct.... but that does not mean that what they have recieved is the truth. No-one knows what the government is telling them is correct.

I don't trust my government and you should not trust yours. The ppl on the ground are only doing what they think is right. There is nothing wrong with that. So don't get defensive over this.

Anyway i hope all that makes sense. I'm severly lacking sleep [4 hours in the last 24hrs] and have had a few glasses of wine.

it has nothing to do with being defensive. there's a glut of misinformation out there, and a lot of it is perpetrated by the cursory service the media gives to it. the same media which calls a honda civic with a CAI & an SAFC a "high-performance lethal street-racing machine" (i'm serious, it was a bit done in california where they also crushed a civic hatchback) is the same media which is telling you that the US is nothing but warmongering. to everyone but those "in the know" the media reports seem legit. all i'm saying is that if you don't have perspective on the issue--what you hear pumped out by news-anchors will seem like the word of god. take a step back and do some research on your own. you'll quickly realize why we're over there till the work is done.

no, i'm not middle-eastern. still, i've been exposed enough to cultural studies to understand many of the nuances of the region. shows of force and power are still seen as legitimate means to rule. perhaps in the western world these shows are seen as barbaric, brutal, and inhumane. to many in the middle-east, this is the way of life. the "alpha-dog" mentality is still alive and well. i believe that if a theocratic caliphate ever does reassemble itself on the earth; the leader will be the one with the most blood on his hands.
