Oscar Robertson would have to be considered. He averaged a triple double for a full season, no one's ever done it before or since. He averaged close to 30 pts per game and 10.5 assists his first 8 seasons.

He also showed a guy named Lew Alcindor to win championships playing the pro game.

That's the trouble when trying to formulate a proper "who's best" question; too many conditions, circumstances and scenarios to account for everyone who arguably belongs in the conversation.

jordan, chamberlain and jabbar were all great. it's nearly impossible to put anyone at the absolute top of the NBA list though.

i would also consider mentioning:

pete maravich
larry bird
robert parish
john stockton
patrick ewing
magic johnson
isaiah thomas
karl malone


maravich is, imho, still one of the greatest to ever grace the sport--even if his professional career was unduly short.

I dont include Stockton or Malone (even tho they were one of the best ever one-two partnerships of all time) as they couldn't win a championship. (did Malone win one with the Lakers??)

Ewing was a monster of a man but wasn't a game winner.
