Who has broken a 5-speed bellhousing? I didn't think anyone had yet, but I couldn't remember for sure. I have upgraded the OS, front, and mid housing on the transfercase. I'm pulling the motor and tranny back out which would be an ideal time to do this, but I didn't think it was necessary. 6-speeds yes mandatory. I'd rather spend the money on a better front diff though while it's out.

We always say "better safe than sorry." If you want the strongest tranny possible, you need a bellhousing brace. The 5 speeds can break, it's just that the 6 speeds are much more prone to it. For the peace of mind, it is well worth it for both 5 and 6 speeds.

Yeah I realize that. I just don't know that it'll be a weak link for my setup. I don't have upgraded 300M rear axles which will be on the list depending how far I push the car. My Southbend Stage 4 clutch is only going to go so far too so if I max that out I may put a brace in at the same time.

Should one take out all the seals and such before sending a bell housing in? What's the standard protocol?

Grind the bellhousing for clearance and weld it in place

You can leave everything in it, just clean it really well and send it on it.

I just broke my 5spd bellhousing in that same exact spot. I need a new bellhousing, and a brace....and a tranny. :P It might be savagable, we'll see. I have tons of trans parts.

But yeah, do you guys still have the 5spd braces? If so, I need to get that done ASAP!
