    This TC keeps spewing oil

So I put the car away for the winter, and everything under the car appeared normal.

I put the car up on the lift this morning to get it ready for the season and found the TC COVERED in gear oil. The car hasnt moved in 6 months...

The fluid appears to have come from the vent cap. I drained the fluid out and found 7 ounces, a bit shy of the full 9.28 ounces that is supposed to be in there. Since it is shock proof heavy there was probably at least 1.5 ounces left in the TC, plus the car was at a slight angle, so there was some fluid left in the tail section.

Anyone have any ideas about this? I dont want to just fill up the TC and have this happen again. SOmething similar happened last year, however I believe that time it was slightly over filled, and it came out of the vent while moving.. not sitting in storage.

I switched to redline 75w90 because the shockproof comes out the breather so bad.

There are modified breather setups that will fix the problem, but I didn't really feel like messing with it or adding more complication.

    Hm, interesting.

Well I have plenty of the 75w90, so I can go ahead and fill up with that instead. Should I flush out the shock proof with some motor oil first?

Is there a guide/thread about the modified breather setup?

O yea, anyone know where I can get stuff like crush washers locally? Like the one for the drain plug. I would hate to have to order something like that.

I didn't flush mine, but it wouldn't have hurt.

There are some guides on here and the other site. I'm sure you can find the crush washer anywhere if you bring the old part with you.

I'll pump some 5w-30 through to clean it out.

THanks for the help, I'll poke around for guides.

So you would be surprised at the lack of places that carry aluminum crush washers...

If anyone happens to read this and knows about the breather modification, that would be most helpful, I am having a bit of trouble finding that.

I guess I am having an off 'finding stuff' day.

use some copper washers if that's what they have:

FYI I have re-used the drain plug washer many times.

Buy a stainess flared barb fitting and tap it into the old breather vent socket and run a hose from the barb fitting to one of these. I used to make them but since I found this place this is where I get them now .

^^^^this^^^^ was going to suggest a remote mounted vent. Been thinking about doing the same thing. Those vents look good.

So how much line is really needed before terminating at a remote vent? A few inches, a foot? There isnt much fluid in the TC, so I imagine a large tube is not needed. It looks like Erron terminated his connection into a reservoir. Seems to me that the tube itself should act as a reservoir.

If I use the regular redline 75w90 will I still have this problem?

Would it be worth it to just replace the factory breather as a stop-gap measure? Mine doesn't appears to be damaged, but it is certainly worn in.

BTW, thanks for finding that thread for me.
