    Doin' more work son.

Pulled the pan today. You have to pull the transfer case to do this. I noticed a pool of gear oil near the driveshaft anyway so I needed to pull the transfer case to inspect.

Here's a picture of the transfer case. Pretty rusty, particularly in the spline that connects to the output shaft. There was no play in the end of the transfer case which is good. The seal didn't appear leaky but I will probably test this later on more vigorously to confirm. The majority of the oil seemed to leak down from the yolk of the driveshaft. I have not yet confirmed this. I also need to check the splines on the output shaft for wear.

I found a surprise in the oil pan.

    Oh I love milk!

Here's a picture I took of my output shaft. I'm not experienced in inspecting output shafts. All I know is that you want the splines square and not shaped like a sawblade.

With that much coolant in the oil, maybe the bearings look worn unevenly just because there wasnt really a lubricating film on them?

I don't think the output shaft is leaking; I think all of that is just old buildup through the life of the car that's never been cleaned. It will be though.

Agreed on the bearings. Looks like oil contamination, but overall the bearings looked to be in good shape. Definitely newish.

Well I haven't been able to determine if that milky substance was actually coolant. It could have just been condensation from when the PO left the car sitting outside for so long. I found the same substance on the oil cap. Also looks suspiciously similar to assembly lube.
