    You'd think so.

VR4Rob came over and we got a little done last night. Took off all the accessory belts and pullies as well as the timing cover. That was a real pain. It sucks that the pullies on this car are so close to the wheel well, making bolt removal quite difficult. The belts were all old and moldy and will need replacing. Will also need to replace the timing cover. The gaskets are cracked and parts of the plastic are cracked as well.

I got my Jay Racing timing tools in a couple days ago. Should come in handy. Still have to load the tensioner and get the timing belt off before I get to the valves.

Years ago I bought a set of ratchets and sockets at home depot where the socket sits down and in the ratchet. I ground the 14mm socket down some more and BAM, perfect tool to remove the pesky idler pulley that's too close to the frame.

    Gear Ratchets:

Interesting tool. I ended up using a 1/4" drive wrench but it was still pretty close to the frame. Will have to look into that!

On 1gs take the driver side mount out anf jack up the motor that usually gives u some extra room for the pully bolts. Should have no problem fitting a 3/8sl socket.

The first thing I did when we got started on the procedure was remove the front motor mount. Still had a problem.

I was able to do a little more tonight. Got the tensioner pinned and pulled off the timing belt, then pulled the valve cover and the exhaust cam as well as the lifters on the exhaust side. Tried to use a universal valve spring compressor VR4Rob loaned me but it was not useful. Going to need a better one. Trying to track one down from a couple of people at the NAMO meet that said they had one. Hopefully I can procure one in the next couple of days. Otherwise I'll just bite the bullet and order my own.
