Here's something interesting. Refer to my picture of my old head leaking oil out of the exhaust ports:

Notice how the rightmost port is comparatively dry. The same condition exists for my new head (run for about 3 mins admittedly). That really has me thinking.

Hmmm... That would be a pisser. At least you have a freshly rebuilt head I imagine some thread sealer would also help the cause.

Yeah, given the testing I've done on the motor I have little reason to believe there's anything wrong internally. It has to be something simple like the stud problem I posited.

Got more work done on the car last night. I went to go trade in the power steering belt I got a few months ago for the correct one, but they didn't have it in stock, so I'll have to wait until next week to get the accessory belts on.

In the mean time, I bought a 3/16" pre-flared straight brake line with the fittings attached. I got the longest one they had to make sure I had enough length to get from the proportioning valve to the passenger side wheel well. By the time I got the line routed and bent the way I wanted it, it was about 1.5 feet too long, so I just cut off one end, flared it on my own, and installed it.

After that I decided to fill the radiator with coolant. I put a little bit in initially to check for leaks, and sure enough I found one. The line coming from the water housing to the turbo coolant line was not tightened properly, and the hose clamp was worn and would not tighten further, so I replaced it. No other leaks to report after that, so I filled it up all the way.

Then I put on the piston ends of the brake calipers and called it a night. All that's left is to put the accessory belts on before I start it, and to drive it I'll need to put on the transfer case, downpipe, and replace the rear brake rotors and pads, then bleed the brakes and continue to monitor the "oil situation."

Last night I picked up the power steering belt and rear brake pads I ordered at the end of last week. I had planned on working on the car a little bit last night but was overcome with fatigue by the time I got home. Kinda hit me from nowhere. Anyway, I'm going to try to put the belts on Wednesday and run the car up to operating temps to see how it does.

Worked on the car a bit this weekend. First weekend in a long time I've been able to work on it. Got the belts on and the front brake pads as well as the transfer case with the help of my father. Unfortunately, it appears one of the holes on the transmission where the transfer case bolts up is stripped out. Also, the previous owner tightened the drain plug far too much and we can't get it off. We ended up rounding the head off. Even my torque wrench couldn't pull it off. Hopefully I can find a solution.

I started the car to make sure the belts were fine and also to let it warm up to operating temp. It smoked like crazy the whole time. Still the same issue of pitch black oil spitting out of the turbo. As inplausible as it seems that the turbo could be flinging oil up the exhaust manifold, I'm beginning to think of it as the culprit since I've eliminated all of the other possibilities via testing. The next step is to put an OEM line on, and if that doesn't work, another turbo.

I have about two weeks to get the car at least driveable with the smoking issue. I just took a job in my hometown four hours away and will be relocating, which means I won't be able to work on the car for quite some time as we attempt to sell our house and find a place to live down there. All I need to do is get the rear brake rotors and pads on, bleed all four corners, and get some gear oil in the transfer case. Since the drain bolt is rounded off I'll need to take off the transfer case and fill it from the top with a quart, then put it back on so it can be driven temporarily while I find a solution to get the bolt off and drain the excess. I will also be putting an order in for some miscellaneous OEM parts I need, including an OEM oil feed line with banjo bolts. I also need to track down some splashguards.

How rounded is the drain plug? Have you tried using vice grips? Drill and tap the plug for a left hand thread bolt? Congrats on the new job!

for the bolt to come out , try rapping on the face of it with a hammer to jar it then using a chisel wput it at a 45 degree angle to the bolt and walk it around
