Last night I worked in the car for about an hour and a half. When I originally took off the lower timing belt cover it had the rubber pieces coming out all over the place and there were bolts missing. I was able to salvage the main piece of rubber as it was in great shape. I put some gasket sealer around that area and put the rubber piece back in where it belonged, then slid the timing cover back on and found some good bolts to use to fasten it. No unbolted holes in my car!

That took up the majority of my time, but I was able to put the crank pulley back on before I wrapped things up. I suppose I could start it up from there and run it off the battery just to see if it will run.

I will take more pictures tomorrow.

I was able to work on the car last night for a couple of hours. Put the rest of the intake pipes on, made a new coolant line for the throttle body out pipe to the coolant pipe, put in my freshly-charged battery, put the motor mount back in and lowered the engine, installed the throttle cable to the pedal and the throttle body, and put in the spark plugs. Thought I was ready to go at around 9:15 PM when I checked the oil and the dipstick was dry. Put in three quarts of oil and it was still dry! Funny, I thought I had a couple of quarts in it. So my plan to start it last night was foiled, but I'm going to get a couple more quarts today and try to start it late tonight. Hope it goes well!

I got it started! Only left it running for about 30 seconds. It was idling around 3000 rpm and the timing was at about 40 degrees, so I shut it down to investigate. Played with the BISS and got the idle down to 1900 rpm which is more acceptable for a cold idle, so I'll wait to properly warm up the motor to adjust it more. DSMLink makes the adjustment super easy.

I'll need to get a timing light to adjust the timing properly via the cam angle sensor. Seeing that 40 degree value made me LOL. Car was smoking like crazy but I put oil in the cylinders while the head was off to prevent rusting (even though I covered it with a big garbage bag as well) so I expect it to smoke. That being said, oil was not dripping from the exhaust housing like it was with the old head, but I'll wait to run the motor for a longer period of time before writing my endeavor off as a success.

Hell, I'm just glad the car started on my first try.

    Pics to follow.

Wouldn't be a DSM without being on jackstands.

Pic of the engine bay. Looks a lot cleaner now that I've painted the valve cover, throttle body, and intake manifold black.

No ABS. Look at all that space!

    Interior shot.

Rear shot. Still need to work out the imperfections in the spoiler where I fiberglassed the hole for the wiper arm.
