Been awhile since I updated this, but I've been super busy and haven't been able to work on the car since my last post. I have been trying to track down a hydraulic tensioner though. Cherry Hill quoted me $122 plus shipping whereas my dealership could get it for $130 and no shipping (obviously). I thought Cherry Hill was supposed to have good prices. Why do people order from them?

Anyway, I ordered from STM since they had a tensioner for $103 shipped. Just got it in yesterday but couldn't work on the car as I needed to get things done around the house. I ought to be able to spend some time on the car next week so hopefully I can get the engine back together and started by Wednesday. Hope everything turns out well!

$122+ $8 or so for shipping... I'm not seeing where the issue is compared to your dealer. I don't know if Cherry Hill still gives the 3SI discount or not

    1) My dealer can get it in my hands the very next day.
    2) STM sells it for $30 less.

So again, I'm not sure why people go with Cherry Hill. I was under the impression that they give amazing discounts, but maybe I've heard wrong. Do people just use them when they don't have a local Mitsu dealership to go to and they need parts that they can't get from performance shops?

I use them all the time. Did you go to Mitsparts.com? Here is what I get from there:

    Camshaft & timing, Tensioner adjuster
    Eclipse, To 4/92 - 2.0l
    List Price : $122.67
    Your Price : $92.74

You can get another buck off with the 3SI discount and then about $11 in shipping. So it should be around $103 shipped from Cherry Hill. I guess that's the same as what you paid

Mod list (scroll down the page)

No, I contacted a guy through Cherry Hill directly. He gave me the quote. Perhaps in the future if I don't have a dealership in the area I'll just use the site. To be honest I didn't even know the URL. All I knew to search for was Cherry Hill and it took me to Cherry Hill Triplex where I requested a quote.

Their website is the way to go, calling them doesn't get you any discount from list. Good to hear that STM can compete though, competition is good IMO.

I installed the hydraulic tensioner last night. It was really funny how it worked out too. The tensioner arm was set properly without me having to use the special tool. The grenade pin came right out! Saved me a few minutes and also freaked me out because nothing ever goes that smoothly for me. I turned the crankshaft 6 complete turns, waited 15 minutes, and checked the plunger clearance and it was right at 0.15 in, which is great as I'd like it to be as close to the lower tolerance as possible to account for it extending over time.

On Wednesday I hope to find time to get all the accessory belts put back on so I can try to start the engine. I could just start it now too, but I hate running it off the battery only, plus I at least need to put the water pump pulley on and since I want to do that I might as well do all of the belts.

Wow, that's not gonna happen often with the tensioner.
