i have a good condition fiav i would give ya removed to put a block off plate on. also get a non turbo tb they are bigger than turbo haha does not make sense but its true , also if your cams are damaged i have a set of good ones
Well I already have the 1G turbo one so I'll just stick with it. I have two FIAVs and the one on the 2G definitely works so I should be fine there. I'll let you know about the cams. The guy I'm getting the 6-bolt head from might have some but if he doesn't I'll let you know.
BTW, I took a picture of my reservoir this morning. I'll post it on photobucket when I get home and share it with you.
Update time.
I tried contacting the guy that has the spare head, but I think he's flaking out. That might actually be a good thing, as I've thought a little more about the head. The one he's offering has bent valves which means the guides could need replacing. Buying his head for $75 or so and having it sent to a machine shop for guide replacements for another $150ish and the total could come to over $200 invested. I could take the head I have now to the machine shop and see if they can repair this damage, but it just seems so significant that I doubt it could be repaired effectively. Repairs like this typically range between $75-100.
My alternative is to get a remanned head that comes with brand new components, including the camshafts, and also has a warranty. I can get one from Advance for $350. That's not very expensive at all and it would give me piece of mind AND timely install. I think this is my best course of action. Thoughts?
I still have to drop the pan and inspect the bearings. I'm going to try to get that done tonight.
Another update for tonight. I bought a portable sandblaster from Harbor Freight yesterday. Pretty good for $30. Bought a $4 bag of playsand as my medium and went to town on the throttle body, intake manifold, and valve cover. Did a pretty good job.
Now I just have to paint them! You can guess what color...
I need to replace the screws on this throttle body plate but the heads are stripped out. That's going to be difficult to deal with.
350$? Damn I wish I
would have known that in my dsm days
