well if they are that clean that means their was prolly a antifreeze leak or it has less than 5k miles on rebuild, antifreeze into cylinders will cause a cleaning efffect and leave cylinders and valves with little carbon. also tyler can u snap me a picture of your stock coolant overflow and location?

Probably the latter. From what I gathered the car didn't even get 1000 miles on it after he built it.

I'll try to remember to snap you a pic.

Kinda makes you want to do a wire tuck, doesn't it?

Haven't forgotten about you, nodoze. I'll snap a pic when I get home today.

I spent a couple of hours last weekend organizing my garage and piddling around with my car a bit. Got the throttle body off the intake manifold and will be replacing it with the proper 1G one. I have no idea why PO put a more restrictive 2G throttle body on. I also put the motor mount back on so I could let the engine down on its own. I'm going to pull the pan this week to ensure the bearings look good. I inspected the motor mount before I put it on and it's completely trashed. I have a spare one but it's trashed too. This has motivated me to replace them. I'll either make my own or get the Prothane inserts.

I have a theory on the spots on my pistons. I think the attempt at repairing the cam bearing was ill-conceived and improperly clearanced. This improper clearance caused the cam journal to grind down the excess, sending fine metal shards through to the cylinders when the engine was fired up for the first time. Whether those shards worked their way into the bearings is unknown at this point, but I'm hopeful all will be well with them.

Now that the majority of the car is in pieces again I'm finding a lot of other things I want to do. I'm definitely going to clean up the intake manifold, throttle body, and valve cover. I've also been toying with the idea of a wire tuck, especially since I've deleted a few features on the car. The wire tuck would take a lot of time though so I don't see myself going through with that at this time. I just like the idea of a clean-looking engine bay.

I would assume that the car developed idle issues and the PO swapped the entire assy (sensors included) for a 2G one. Just a guess.

The metal debris would end up in the oiling system and there's basically no way it would get into the combustion chambers.

Even if the slivers were very fine? You're probably right though.

Good call on idle issues from PO. He definitely did have that problem. He never figured out it was because his MAF was gutted to hell.

Except that huge VSS leak Except that was only one cylinder.

Just pray it wasnt that though, or your bearings are going to be fubared.

    Moar progress!

Someone suggested that PO might have replaced 1G throttle body with a 2G to attempt to remedy idle issues he was having with the 1G throttle body on. This suggestion might have been confirmed tonight.

Turns out the 1G throttle body had a FAIV blockoff plate installed. But as I dug deeper, I found something even MORE hilarious.

    Blockoff on:

    Blockoff removed:

    See something wrong here? LOL...

Wasn't too hard to find the problem here!

Also decided to delete the vacuum ports on the throttle body as I won't be using them. Then I filed down the letters labeling the ports.

Will tap those holes and block them off. Could weld them too.
