Looks like ALL of them took a shit, or he just forgot to put in ALL of the valve guides. I've never seen worn valve stem seals literally POUR oil out of the exhaust like that in a few minutes of idling.

Well this was the previous owner so I wouldn't put it past him to do a bad job. Probably why he sold the car.

So it looks like this fix won't be so easy, but it might actually cost me less from a monetary standpoint. Just gotta take off the timing belt and pull the head so I can get to work on those seals!

Keep every piece of each valve and spring assembly together, and seperate from the rest, and put it in a small bag or something and mark it accordingly to its matching port....some people dont do this then complain when a valves not seated properly or something.

You don't have to take the head off. Take the cams out. Run compressed air in the cylinders to keep the valves closed. Get one of these or something similar.

Overhead Valve Spring Compressor Stem Seal Removal Tool | eBay

You may be able to barrow one from autozone etc.

Yeah, I was looking at doing it with the head on last night. I was looking at a neat tool that seems to kick the crap out of these other cheap tools from what I've heard from other DSMers:

    Mitsubishi 4G63 Valve Spring Compressor

Also found a decent price on some tools needed for the timing belt job:

Jay Racing Timing Belt Tools Kit [TBTS] - $50.00 : Jay Racing

Just use a bench vice to compress the tensioner. But do it 1/2 turn then pause for a few seconds, and repeat. So u dont destroy it.

I've heard of this method. I'll be thinking about this a lot today so I can make a thoughtful decision on my plan of action.

I'm a little hesitant to buy a valve spring compressor that will only work on this head, especially at $70. There's one at Harbor Freight here with good reviews for only $15 and it will work on all heads and will work with the heads on the motor.

i made a compressor out of a 5/8 spark plug socket then cut a 1/3 of it away for a window to put the locks back, and use a c clamp to compress it down in and yes the vise method works well i have used it alot when doing timing belts

Oh and sometimes the tensioner needs some help expanding when u install it, so push on the tensioner pully to help the hydual tensioner expand. Also sometimes when u release the tensioner it will pull ut cam gears 1/2 a tooth and sometimes a full tooth. So compensate for that.
