    Reverse sensor?

The weirdest thing happened to my 3kt over the winter. When i put the car into reverse the reverse lights do not come on (which makes backing up at night time sooo much fun.) What weird is that sometimes when i pop it into neutral and then back into reverse they do come on, other times i can sit there for 10 minutes with no luck at all. Is there a sensor that turns on your reverse lights when you shift into reverse? (It is a stick shift.)

Yes, it sounds like the switch is worn out/on its way out. They're pretty easy to replace & are just below the shift linkages that go into the transmission case (a little more towards the passenger side fender)...You should be able to see a connection on the side of the transmission through some of the mess. Just disconnect the connector, get a large wrench (can't remember the size, but it's big), put your new one in, reconnect it & everything should work again.

Just take note if there is a gasket present on the old one. On my AWD trans , the gasket is an important depth shim for the switch as well. Without the proper shimming, you will rub the end of the switch off on the reverse shift rod.

I changed mine. It had an aluminium washer on it. Part number is MD730979 and it should be cheap at your local dealer. Or the same part is used on some Hyundai's so check the price on this part number as well 93860-36100 or it can be bought from 3sx.
