Im in for a chat room. I have mixed feelings about shoutboxes.

I'd use the shoutbox software for the chat.

Here is something to think about! The chat room is great for people to interact live, But it will cut down on f threads that get started on here as people will go right to the chat room to get answers. It would be nice if the chat room had the functionality to turn the entire chat session into a thread for historical purposes or if they need to get outside information from other not involved in the chat session.

I have the chat room running on the Colorado3s forum and the members use it a lot. But sense they are all local to each other it seems more about "hey what is everyone doing tonight?" types of chats.

on the 3sforums chatroom we rarely talked about anything too technical
usually just bs'ing
sometimes looking for quick advice, but if there was anything technical, it usually ended up being added to the threads also
it's great if you're in the middle of something and need a quick answer

could always try it and if it's too much strain on the servers or taking too much away from the forums or just too much of a hassle, you could always turn it off
i'd at least give it a shot and see how it works out

I like the shout on BAWC. I don't use it much but I never used the one on 3si.
