Anyone have a guide on how to do this? Will it help horsepower? Will I need to run higher octane fuel?

Grab a timing light and turn the distributor the appropriate direction. I'm sure you could get a couple degrees out of it if you run 91-93.
Parting 6 speed
Pampena 3.5 Stroker, GTX 2867 Gen IIs, AEM Series2, oohnoo SMIC, DN Hardpipes, FIC 1650s, Walbro 525, aermotive fpr, Dejon intake pipes, Tial Q, Koyo Rad, Samco Hoses, Stoptech 332mm fronts, HKS GT4 Coilovers, Spec 4+ LW, JDM 6 Speed, Billet shift forks, Pampena brace
Hopefully I can get a couple degrees out of it without having to run higher then 87 octane since gas prices are ridiculous.
You can only turn it very little before the cap hits the plenum.
Also if your SOHC is a later model its not adjustable without modification because the bracket is not slotted.
I had mine as advanced as it would go and never ran anything other than 87. Never heard any audible pings.
As for gains I am not sure. Hard to say really. I still was getting 25 mpg in daily driver duty.

Rather then modifying it would I just be able to swap mine for the slotted one? Finding a part # though for that bracket is gonna be a pain in the ass I bet.
Edit: It's a 98
98 is not slotted if I recall. The 94 is slotted but will not swap into a 98 car because of the harness being different that plugs into the distributor itself.
Instead of making a new thread I will ask here.
Is this possible on a 95 DOHC? I don't know much about the internals and I can't afford the turbo upgrade atm so I was thinking about taking it to a shop w/a dyno and maybe having them tune it, I run 92-93 always.
No, the DOHC engine uses coilpacks. The 91-92 years have the cam & crank angle sensor in the same housing, which can be used to adjust base ignition timing, but this is the only exception.
