Voltage on both wires means that the wiring appears to be fine. It would indicate a bad dimmer/rheostat though which is a pain.

knob was turned up all the way.

    readings are:

    black/yellow = 11.94 (went to 11.90 as i turned the knob off)
    green/white = 11.14

car won't start due to no gas lol.. i can't charge my battery at home, so you'll see the readings slowly go down.

the black wire is a ground wire, so measuring voltage to it and measuring voltage to ground is basically the same thing.

Unless the black wire burnt up along with the dimmer. I wanted to make sure we still had a ground connection there.
Voltage on both wires means that the wiring appears to be fine.
Unless those two wires are still shorted together somehow. Hard to say without putting a load on it which is why I wanted to put the dimmer back in. (under load the black/yellow should read less than the green/white)

    black/yellow = 11.94 (went to 11.90 as i turned the knob off)
That's not good. Either the dimmer is toast or the wires are still shorted.
    Try testing the dimmer.
    Unplug the dimmer
    Put the meter on 2k
on the dimmer measure between pin 3 (were the black/yellow wire goes) to pin 2 (were the black wire goes) while turning the knob up and down.

    black/yellow = 10.90 (10.95 with the knob on)
    green/white = 11.16

That's better, but I'd still like to see it change more.
Go ahead and try that test on the dimmer switch.

Just checking, are you on the ohms setting (2k) or are you still on DCV?
