Not to sidetrack Sin here but that's not exactly right.
The relay that turns on the fuel pump (part of the MFI) has two coils, either one of which can turn on the pump.
One coil is connected to the starter relay, the other to the ECU.
When you start the car the starter relay turns on the first coil, starting the fuel pump.
After that the ECU turns on the second coil, and keeps it on after you let go of the key as long as it gets CAS pulses.
The pump should start as soon as you crank.

Other than that though you're right. With stock wiring or even with most hotwire setups the pump shouldn't run with just the key turned to run.

The EMS can prime the pump for some user-defined period of time at key-on.

The fuel system could be tighter but it's irrelevant as long as pressure is OK while the pump is running. We're just talking about idle here.

I don't suppose the weather cooled recently? With E85 you might need to enrich a little more. You can always add some fuel and see if it improves the situation at all. If nothing else that might give you a clue about what's going on. Obviously, save your existing cal before you mess around.

But definitely check voltages from your sensors and make sure that they look sane and that engine load is being calculated properly.
