upgraded cat?

I know Viper guys who want a quieter car while going catsless add additional mufflers(less restrictive than cats), but It's kinda hard to tell how it'll sound without ex$perimenting.

i'm all for that. unfortunately, i don't know how much i can fit around the driveshaft. i suppose it's theoretically possible to make my catback nothing but a successive series of cherry-bomb's...but will that even work? it's gotta be heavy as FAKKKK.

the gas tank? i'd LOVE to modify the gas tank; i just don't trust that it won't leak. and i'm not interested in running a puny fuel-cell on a daily driver.

Might be worth taking the car to the hobby shop and putting it on a lift to see and measure how much room you're gonna have. Take a few pics for reference and such at a later date.

I don't really know what you are shooting for.. long term. BUT I was more than happy with my car when I removed all the cats with a downpipe (MR) and kept the rest of the stock TT exhaust. It's quiet with driving normally and as soon as you get heavy on the gas, it gets loud as hell. I have no idea on power level/gains with this setup. It's definitely cheap though.

It seems to me that people like spending on exhaust when they don't need to. Meaning that the dollars spent are much better suited elsewhere.

Running a cat is a Very Good Thing. The high-flow versions make very little restriction to flow and they scrub out all sorts of pollutants. Not polluting is a good thing. It is good to play nicely with others, least they try and outlaw our fun.

I have a 3" cat on my car.

I note, however, that it doesn't cut down on noise very much. Going from a half-clogged OEM cat to a 3" high-flow (IPS shorty downpipe, 3" cat, OEM cat-back) is actually pretty loud.

i never had a stock tt exhaust. i was originally running a 2.5" single shot with a hi-flow cat when i did my tt conversion. i swapped to a 3" single-shot, catless--because the 2.5" cat (oval shape) didn't fit around the driveshaft when i was doing the AWD conversion.

i'm up in the air about sticking with a 3" and going quad, or upgrading to 4" and going quad. either way, the 3" single-shot catless is too loud for my blood.

I can barely hear my atr at cruise. Very quite until you get on it. On my car its quiter than the stock cat back. The stock cat back sounded loud and ricy after ditching the cats and the stock downpipe.
