Got a great deal on an AEM EMS from Chris. Best investment in the car I have ever made.

Stock ECU is still with AvPro, apparently he can't find anything wrong with it. However, this post makes me wonder if it's not a damage issue, but rather a function of the ECU itself.

LOL, an EMS would trump all other issues since you can control everything now. It sounds like it could still have been the MAS, I know you were in process of trying to rule it out.

That table is showing the ecu timing adjustment map @ warm up...seems strange its programmed to pull timing at that rpm range.

Ironically that's exactly where I had my issues. Sometimes I could get out of that rpm range by going WOT but it wasn't easy.

In all honesty that map depicts the exact area where the issues would occur.

Is there a way to edit that map in the software currently available for the 98/99 ECUs?

I would imagine that it would be possible by using Evoscan but I've got no personal experience with it.
