Just wondering how fast you can go until you need to put in a cage? I'm not even sure if I have to worry about that or if my car will be too fast? Anyone know

11.49 requires roll bar
9.99 or 135 mph requires roll cage and chute, AFAIK
Straight from NHRA FAQ
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:
If the floor and/or firewall has been modified, then a full roll cage is required beginning at a 10.99 e.t. A full roll cage is required in any vehicle running 9.99 seconds or quicker, and any vehicle running 135 mph or faster (regardless of e.t.). The roll cage must be constructed of minimum 1 5/8 o.d.x .118 mild steel tubing, or 1 5/8 x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:
The roll cage of any vehicle running 9.99 or quicker, or 135 mph or faster, must also be certified by NHRA every 3 years, and have a serialized sticker affixed prior to participation.

just didnt realize it was that fast. So is it costly to put in a cage? Maybe ill worryt about it if i break 11.49. Have a feeling it will be close
don't think I'd put that stuff in my dd.
luckily its not my dd
I'm in the same boat as you. My buddy Dave has an Evo8 and ran a 9.95 @ 150 something without a cage or chute and got asked to never return until he has those things. He was in Novembers DSport magazine. He drives it on the street so he cant justify puting a full cage in it.
omg thats just stupid. that fast, if something goes wrong...death or serious injury. even a 12 sec car you can die or get seriously hurt
There can be a serious injury in a 15 second car as well. Hell my first car may have been a 16 second car tops and I ripped the thing in half.
Matt runs 8's without a chute. T4 didn't have a chute either if I remember correctly.
Federal Regulations only allow for a seat belt to work properly up to like 90, any faster than that and there is a chance it won't be quick enough to catch you as you spring out of your seat. (I know someone that sued GM and lost). Street or Strip if you are going to be running regularly above those speeds a cage and restraints are cheap safety insurance. Better than a morgue or long term care facility.
