Yep, I agree. I love my .380 for CC. I know people say it's too small but I don't think I would ever have a problem at the range you'd be justified in using it at. I'm really torn about moving up to a 9mm though. I don't think there is any need for a bigger caliber for CC. I do want to get a 1911 .45 simply for fun shooting though as my .380 is NO fun to shoot at all.
Not to mention (which I am far from inexperienced), the 9MM will take people down. Show me a comparison (lineup of hardcore criminals?) where someone gets shot with a 9MM and is ready to rock and roll with another person shot in the same spot with a .45. I was a firearms saleseman for over a year. I've talked to a lot of people, especially military. Personally, I'd rather take a 9MM over a .45 for ease. Cool, you can say you own a .45 and have a bunch of kids kissing your shoes (not to say it is a bad gun, at all...), or for home protection (99% use) you could use a 9MM. Using a .45 for home protection would be like me asking the shoe rental clerk at a bowling alley, "hey, I have a 9" penis, what shoe size do you recommend?" Or, if you are using it as the vast majority of people do, you could be practical. Sure, you'll have people tell you they have a bigger gun. That's fine! There is nothing wrong with that. However, unless used for hunting, ask yourself, "when will I encounter a situation where a 9MM would have not stopped my target, but if I was using a .45 it would've?"
With all this said, I have little doubt the big guns (pun intended) will come in here and tell me all about their prized piece (and truly it should be, as most firearms are). However, I do enjoy a snarky scoff at those that go, "oh, you have a 9MM? Well...I have a .45!" Comes down to it, marksmanship>caliber. I guess you could throw in ease of use too.
With this said, I love shooting a .40, .44, and .45 (latter I have not much use in). I'm talking practicality.
its not the size of the round its where its placed. a .22 will take down attackers too if you place the shot right.
the old 9mm vs .45 arguments yes its worse to be hit with a .45 but how often does the situation arise that you have to shoot at human targets? mostly the gun is there to give your self a bit more confidence, you feel safer wearing than not. so in reality does the size of the round really matter or is it more psychological?
How very true. I don't know how many people I've had the caliber argument with. I feel that .380 or 9mm are perfect for CC because of size and they both have the take down power at around 12 yards. You would have a hard time explaining to a judge if you shot them from further away. Besides, I shooting to stop, not to kill. If they die in the process, well, then that's their problem. However, for home invasion, I shoot to kill. I think the best weapon for that is a shot gun. It will kill the asshole without going through a wall.
Like you, I love the larger calibers like .45 .40 .44 magnum .357 magnum. The list goes on. They're fun to shoot, but impractical.
As I recall the preferred gun of mob assassins were .22s. It's one of the most deadly weapons out there.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"
"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."
"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."
I picked up a p22 as a toy because it was small, handles well and looks pretty good. But sadly it's little more than that. Most inaccurate piece of crap I have ever fired. But, hey, it's loud. I guess I could scare someone with it. It's got a threaded barrel and the damn thing could really use a silencer, but I'm not going through that kind of expense and hassle for this gun. I think the p99 is supposed to be a lot better. I love shooting my 9mm though. It's like shooting a paintball gun and it's damn accurate. If you put down 16 rounds in a couple seconds, you'll do some damage.
Today was fun. Put 238 rounds through my gun. Got it good and broken in. Shot the AK and AR too.
Guns to shoot. 2 ARs, 1 AK, 1 P99, 1 Sig Sauer 226, and 1 Sig Sauer 239. Didn't take the shotty.
