    3KVT 1993 VR4 Dyno Pulls, GZP 16T's

So, we've had a long run here with Marc, but we're finally dialing it all in now.

We did a few pulls on Saturday night for him with his new GZP 16T turbos, but could not get past 12psi without breaking up. So, we are upgrading his ignition system, and will be re-dyno'ing it again later this week... hopefully to put down some nasty numbers!!!

Stock engine, FMIC kit, borla exhaust, stock MAS, with an emanage blue, 560cc injectors, etc. @12psi we made 322AWHP.

    Enjoy

Circa 2005... Oh my, how far I've come

You shouldn't need to upgrade anything in the ignition system to run 12+ psi. We're talking about 322 AWHP with a mid-grade TD04 ceiling. What on earth are you ugprading?

I have a stock ignition system other than MSD wires (which aren't necessary) and copper plugs @ .020-.022" and I've run up to nearly 33 psi cleanly. Trevor had a completely stock ignition (with regapped iridium plugs) system at basically the same levels.

Tighten the plug gap. If that doesn't work, replace the coil pack with new (or newer) OEM. If that doesn't work, suspect the PTU. Anything more is a waste of money.

I believe Hans found that one of the coils was bad/not great.

No surprise there. These cars are old. The ignition was one of the very few over designed systems on the car, haha... And unfortunately, people tend to upgrade it when they don't have to and often create more problems than they solve.

We had discussed with Marc possibly upgrading to the HKS DLI, but we all agreed we'd try swapping in a good stock one first to see if that solves the problem. He's been having this issue for quite a while now, so, the frustration with it was enough to want to replace everything and be done with it

haha, yeah, since fuckin '03 it's been doin this shit, and I never thought to check the coils. The new plugs and wires last spring helped out tremendously, but the coils are still factory and Hans said one of them had way higher resistance than a new factory set. Can't believe I never checked em before, but I'm still learning about these cars.

and the frustration did make me just want to say fuck it and get a whole new system, lol. Hopefully a new set of coils will clear her up and let her scream out 400awhp like she's supposed to.

Were you ever able to get some new coils in there? How many miles are on the current ignition setup?
60% of the time, my car works every time.
