That aside, you should be fine with new(er) MSD coils. They will at least be better than 130K mile old coils.

You do NOT need tach adapters. I have installed the MSD many times. No need for them.

As for wiring, it's straight forward. There are many wires on the unit. Each color wire is paired with a solid wire and a solid with brown stripe. Each coil on your car has 2 wires. One wire on each coil is common to all 3 coils. Connect the MSD Brown with Orange to this common wire. The remaining 1 wire per coil gets cut. ECU end goes to a solid MSD wire, the coil end goes to the corresponding soild with brown stripe. Repeat for the rest of the coils. Feed the TACHO wire on the PTU with the tach output of the MSD. Power and Ground. Done.

Not sure how you do it with out tack adapters but I'm going to have to give you a call so I can try it. When I did mine the first time without them my tach was reading way to hi, so I ordered tack adapters and installed them and boom, perfect working tach. And mine does not over ride the ecu.

hey guys, my box should be back from MSD in a couple of days, and i want to hook it back up, but i have a question. when i had it plugged in, the tach wouldn't work, so but my datalogger was reading out RPM's. there is a "tach out" spade on the box, can i splice into the "tacho" wire heading out of the PTU, or since my ECU gets signal still, should i find the wire in the dash that goes directly to the tach to tap into? thanks.

I cut the wire at the PTU and put a butt connector that way if the DIS ever crapped out I could get a tach signal

I read threw the thread and I didn't use tach adapters either and bought some, what a waste of money

but my ECU gets a tach signal, it's my actual Tachometer that doesn't do anything?

im having the same exact problem now. the car starts and runs and drives fine, but for some reason the tach doesnt read any RPM's. everything else works fine. did you ever solve the issue?

could you explain a little more about the tacho wire and tach output? i dont see any wires labeled a 'tach output' on the MSD instructions. Maybe this has something to do with my problem?

yeah, there is a tach out spade on the DIS box, run a wire from that to the tach out wire on your PTU and splice it in
