For these guys, they got off lucky. They are lucky to be alive. Things could have gotten really bad, really quick for them. For this I offer one thought. Who's in NJ that can tell me the average asphalt temperature at that time at night?

Why in the hell would anyone race on that kind of condition of a road surface. That's not optimal for any sort of traction. (either straight or turning, or braking)
From an endurance racing standpoint, when the sun goes down so does the traction. By A LOT.
