    Wastegate solenoid clicking - options?

I've got a 92' VR4 that I've tried to keep pretty much stock. I often hear a loud clicking noise coming from under the hood which I've identified to be from the Wastegate solenoid. It comes and goes..etc.

I've read posts elsewhere where others have had this issue and deemed it wasn't a problem necessarily, however, the clicking is so loud its annoying (I can hear it inside the car very easily when stopped at a light) so I've decided to do something about it.

I can get a replacement for that but its $80 from a dealer (ouch). I've also toyed with possibly getting a boost controller. Am I better off just trying to get one of these from a junk yard or do they all have the same problem? What's my best option to keep the amount of work to a minimum without getting bent over by the dealership?

My 92 has the same problem. I was told by numerous 3s mechanics that it isn't an issue. Apparently some solenoids are just supposed to click. I ended up getting a downpipe to drown out the sound. Mine doesn't click too loudly though.

They'll all end up clicking at some point. I replaced a bad one, and the brand new one clicked.

Mount it away from the bulkhead, either on the engine or to the side on the inner wing (with rubber isolator mounts for good measure). It`s the location of the solenoid as much as it`s noise output that makes it so bad.

I thought my lifters had colapsed it was that bad!.

Is it the factory solenoid? I have a profec in my car and as soon as it begins regulating for the psi I'm aiming for it starts clicking. Just like Mac said, mount it away from the firewall if it's driving you crazy and/or try some rubber bushings. That oughta dampen the sound if not eliminate it entirely.
