Hey off topic but I'm about to start my engine after a complete rebuild. I saw the pics of the shattered gears on the earlier pages..I didn't pack the oilpump with assembly lube, all I've done is just pour oil into the pan and into the filter. Are there any other precautionary steps I can take to avoid any catastrophic failures when cranking the engine for the initial oil pressure build up?

I've already disconnected the fuel supply so the cylinders don't get saturated with fuel.

You should be ok. That's always how I've done it. Just crank for 30 seconds at a time and check to see if you have oil pressure. The stock gauge should move a tick or 2.

It's always best to pack with assembly lube while building, rotate pump until it pumps out. You will have oil up in the heads within seconds instead of 30+ seconds on the first starter turn over.

I always get oil to the heads within seconds of cranking and I just pour some oil in the pump before installing.

Since everything is assembled and in the car, is there anything I can do now?

i highly suggest randomly jerking the steering wheel left or right while you're above 5,000 rpms in 3rd gear or higher. it's a breathtaking experience.
