I finally got around to getting it jacked up and then began working again on sanding my original upper intake plenum in preparation of making it look like my other one.

Car passed engineering brake test! (NSW Australia Modified vehicle requirement)

Decided to post up here some great news!

After 8 years of slowly building up my conversion I finally managed to get the car passed through the engineering certification dynamic brake test.

The test is a requirement for vehicles that are heavy modified - especially regarding brake and drive line changes.

My particular car is not a 3000gt VR4 or GTO or Stealth. Its a Mitsubishi Magna TS that i have modified to run a 6g72TT motor and gearbox i took from a imported GTO halfcut here in Sydney Australia.

Runs the Getrag AWD trans in FWD

So in order to make the car road legal here in Sydney NSW Australia i have had to go through an engineering certification process.

The brake testing was the biggest and most time and money consuming of all the requirements.
I had already had 2 failed attempts at this test due to the car running poorly and being so poorly tuned.

Anyway long and short of it listed below are some of the tests we did on the car.....seriously if my daily driver had to do these tests it would fail....the testing is way way overkill however the engineer will not sign any certificate that he feels does not legitimate a safe working car.

Laden car with 2 occupants (at 80kg each approx) and then add 210 kgs in the back seat.
Install a brake decelerometer to the foot brake. Install a GPS speed sensor tracker. Install a manual brake switch or wire up to the one on the car already.

    1. Park brake test. Basically put car into gear and attempt to move forward and reverse when hand brake is applied... car should not move and rear wheels not roll.

    2. Brake Booster failure test. Disconnect brake booster and drive car upto 55kph and then apply brakes to stop car....must decelarate

    3. Spike stops. 5 stops from 55kmph with a full laden vehicle (cannot use engine braking assist - gear in neutral)

    4. Wheel lock up test. Travelling at 60kph must stop quickly locking up brakes to ensure front brakes lock up before rear brakes. Test done onto a long stretch of grass

    5. Speed stop test. Travelling at 100kph must stop the car without locking up brakes within 70 metres. Must be done on cold brakes

    6. Heated brakes tests. A series of 15 stops from 80kph within 45-60 seconds of each other. Must decelerate within certain amount (averaged)

    7. Recovery brake tests. Straight after doing the above tests. Stopping from 50kph with a mean average decel 3m/s squared

    8. Brake line failure tests . Release brake bleeder nipple and add a hose and bottle on front drivers side brake and get car to 80kph then stop within certain distance (do this same test for all other brakes)

There are more tests but i cant remember each one as the whole day was exhausting.

Car passed!!!!! Now all i have to do is get and emissions test and i can get registration for the car.

    Congrats Dougal!

    Last night I finally started
on the interior of my car. Replacing all 4 damaged panels, replacing center gauges and ripping out all the previous owners crap.
