If you were spinning the crank by tightening that bolt, its not a good idea. I put on the sprocket and pulley, then used oohnoo's tool to rotate the assembly.

Aside from scraping of the remaining gasket, and removing freeze plugs, that is how I sent mine to the machine shop.

I've always spun the engine by just the bolt, not sure what you are worried about, it in't like it spins hard. You just need to use a washer or something to keep from beating the roll pin up.

The stock RX-7 gauges still look good. I don't think they look outdated at all.

Maybe i'm extra cautious, but when you install the pistons/rings, it becomes much tougher to spin and you would be putting a good amount of torque on the bolt.

your assembly is not right if you have 150 ft/lbs+ of resistancet turning, LOL.

yeah like 10 ft/lbs. I could probably turn it over with my drill motor.

Even with the heads on I've turned it plenty of times by the crank bolt. That is why the factory put that square hole in the middle that just happens to fit a 1/2" extension perfetly and why they put the hole in the inner fender to access it.
