1992 Kilder Green VR4 - First 4G swap in a 3S. 2.0, auto, awd. 9.65 at 143mph. Now LS swapped. 8.52 at 162.
Got the front bellhousing part of the transmission tunnel done. It was a pita! I was really trying to tuck it in close to the transmission and not take up a whole lot of space. It would have been a lot simpler to make a straight forward larger part but i don't like making my life easy. As a side note, the rubberized red paint on the floor is soo annoying! Wire wheel eventually got it clean but now the car has rubber everywhere. Some spots weren't clean enough so welding got a little fugly but it'll be covered up so all is well lol.
Here it is during the fabrication part. Just resting on the roll of tape but it gives you the general idea of what was made.
Here it is mounted up.
Going to be doing the middle part here soon. will be a lot easier

Well I'll probably try swapping out pumps with the used one I have here lying around. Hopefully that fixes it. If not then I'll just torch the damn thing 🔥

I decided to build the sides first and then the top. I severely lack the fabrication skills to build that in one piece as I'm trying to make a snug fit and nothing is even close to symmetrical with this transmission. Project Binky could pull it off, but i'll stick to just doing one side at a time lol.
Anyway, here it is, both sides welded in place and waiting for a top. These may look deceptively simple, but i assure you it was a huge PITA. I suppose looking simple means it turned out ok though. All of the crazy bends/cuts/welds are on the floor. Turns and elevation changes everywhere! Very tricky. Tops look like flat pieces but those are also curved in many many areas to fit nicely. I snugged up the carpet to see what's what and it looks like everything will appear about 99% oem. The flap you see near the shifter is for clearance of the reverse lockout solenoid. It will be formed and capped off eventually but for now its just going to chillax by itself up there.
This pathetic excuse for a picture is where you can see the two sides rolling in towards the center. Making the top part will be pretty straight forward. You can also see the solenoid here and sort of get a glimpse at the differences between the two sides.
A/C fits! Had to trim the bracket at the bottom just a bit, not much at all, fits like a glove! Still need to find a solution for the heater though. Should be simple enough as there are many slim heater cores to be had.

You're doing a really nice job of leaving enough room for comfort going forward, Mike.
Lotta guys wouldn't think of that.
And quit denigrating your own work - you're almost qualified for an internship on Project Binky!![]()

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.
That's looking really good! Nothing about what you're doing is easy, props to you for going through with it!
I'm curious though, and I'm sure you thought about/tried it, but if you took the old tunnel out in one piece wouldn't it be easier to just make spacer panels to raise it up? You'd have to cut a hole for the shifter, but I'd think everything else would line up. Again, I'm sure you're following the path of least resistance, but I'm just wondering why you found that reusing the old tunnel wouldn't work.
Thanks!
Yeah gave that some thought but the design of the old tunnel makes it not worth the effort. It is made of 3 spaced out painted layers metal with undercoat on the bottom and rubberized stuff on the top, wouldn't be of any extra value either if i did use it. The spacer thingies that I would build would essentially be what I created above so making my own top piece makes a lot more logical sense. I can mold it how i would like as well. Thanks again!
Dropped it off for 10pt chromoly cage build.
Stared at it and sighed.
