I found out this week a 5-speed transmission out of a car I had bought from a member that was rebuilt by Auto Velocity was indeed not rebuilt. It had bad 1st, 2nd, and reverse gears and synchros. The sliders are bad and 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear synchros don't have much life left on them either so I'm looking at $1k in synchros, another $6-800 in gears and parts, seals, probably bearings, etc. Kind of sucks being ripped off but I got it so long ago it doesn't matter now. I'm not completely surprised. I was lied to about the motor being good but it had spun bearings also. It's a good thing I almost broke even parting out the car.

So I decided instead of dumping so much into that rebuild I'll get my 6-speed in the car fixed. It grinds so the synchros and gear are probably shot. Hopefully nothing else is bad but I may replace the 1st and 2nd friction rings in it while I'm in there. I know it was rebuilt but I'm hoping whoever did it didn't use the brass synchros. Given how fast 3rd gear went out I bet that's what happened. I'm getting free labor on the transmission R&R for helping a guy put his car back together and tune his 16Ts after 5 years of him not driving. He's still beside himself with it running.

Pulled the motor and transmission. I was surprised I had enough height to pick it from the side. I always do the front but didn't want to roll the car back.

I found something interesting on the clutch. The miles are very low maybe 1-2k. It's barely used. However, the springs were about to pop out. I can wiggle the center part of the disk from the wear where the springs are plus I found cracks all the way through on some of the pads. It doesn't surprise me coming from Spec. I bet this clutch is only 3-4 years old.

I may try to have it rebuilt and use it or sell it. I've got new Southbend and Competition clutches sitting on the shelf if I have to go that route.

I'm planning on getting rid of the stupid lightweight crank pulley in favor of an OEM damper, swapping around some stuff on the A/C delete for the alternator belt, swapping exhaust manifolds for a ported set, checking my bearings out of curiosity even though my oil pressure was 18-19 at idle warm, installing 20T turbos, and hopefully have it back on the road soon.

Kinda sucks being in central Florida and your window doesn't go down.

I think the last time I had to do that, I sent in cores to Rock Auto. I'd check there.

Thanks. Yeah it is. I picked it up in January, 2012 with then 23K on the clock. I've put over 7K miles on her since then. Great DD car. Tempting to mod, but forcing myself not to. It is the same engine, 2011 - 2013 GS models, as the Cadillac ATS which has some decent flash upgrades for it. The new 2014 GS no longer has the more powerful engine.

    Kind of a slow weekend....

    - Worked on the clutch/brake booster vac hose reduction (removed the hardlines except for the T section and hard line over to clutch booster)
    - Hooked up the rear turbo oil drain, water lines, installed rear precat
    - Started taking fuel rail stuff apart (EVO injectors and some AN stuff going in)
    - Started polishing my spare lower intake (decided that is getting installed while I have the fuel rails out of the way)
    - Took windshield wiper crap apart, they need painting and I'm going to try a wet arm conversion since I don't have nozzles on my hood

    - Debated whether I should swap clutches now or just wait for my stock-equivalent clutch to die with the new turbos/etc.

Leaning toward let it die. I have my hands full right now with all of the different things going on with the car right now. Once the underhood madness is done I still have to pull the dash (to fix a defrost vent) and do a bunch of electronic work.

Technically I did this last night, but...

I pulled the rear struts off to put my new Megan springs on, but we all know rears are a piece of cake. Tonight, they go back on and the fronts come off.
