More of a total weekend update than just today.
Fixed the slop in my shifter, swapped to flash ECU, and took her to a GTO meet (Holdens, not Mitsus...) with a bunch of friends.
The source of most of my shifter slop. There are supposed to be 2 plastic bushings here, but all I had was a pile of 1990 plastic dust and a gap to fill. This was causing lots of left-right slop since this arm connects the shifter to the select (left-right) cable.

So I made my own bushing out of this brass hose barb. The ID was already a match, so I turned down the OD freehand on the bench grinder, then cut it to length. The dead plastic bushings also had collars on them, so I used an additional washer to take up the endplay. It's a nice fit now.

Reinstalled the shfiter base in the car with aluminum floor bushings, and Seattle shifter. (Made the fun discovery that one can get the shifter base out without removing the floor console if the radio and ECU are removed.)
Still need to install brass bushings at the trans next time I have the MAS and IC pipe out of the way.

And finally installed the SmokinVR4 (is that name still a dirty word?) shifter ring I've had laying around for years.

And cleaned up the engine bay. It'd been a while. Can't go to a meet with a dirty bay.
