wait, why are you guys popping ball joints to pull the trans?
Maddog Performance Engineering
Last time I removed a tranny, all I had to do was unbolt the lower passenger strut mount, was enough play to get the PS shaft out of the tranny. Never touched the driver side axel at all... the tranny slid off it with it in place.
I used to pull the brakes, center hub castle, and lower ball joint castle nut and smack the hub and control arm with a 5 lb sledge. The ball joint would release and drop down the control arm and it all swiveled forward.
It's a very heavy handed way to do it, but it's very fast removal doing it that way. I learned that removal technique from a Removal Technician at AAMCO. Taught me how to drop a trans in under an hour. Props to that MOFO...

Yep, big hammer and a brass punch (a big one), comes right out, LCA then drops way down and can pull axle easily

Guys, my problem isn't getting the axles and transmission out, it's the tie-rod ends that are stuck! What if I can't get them out, can they be drilled out or is the hole tapered like the tie-rods?
I hit those fuckers as hard as I could.
Got a thread for this???
