    Dimmer Switch???

Hello guys, another problem i'd like to fix before i start driving her in the spring. My dimmer switch is shorting out on something.

I already blew one dimmer switch, and i have another one from a junk yard, which was real hard to find. Pretty much what happens, is i turn my headlights on, but none of my dash lights come on.

Does anyone know where in the harness the dimmer switch ties into, and where would it most likely short out?

    Thanks!

I had this happen to me a couple years ago. I ended up taking my car somewhere to get it fixed. I had smoke coming out of the dimmer switch but they said it was actually something in the steering column. They stopped it from shorting but the sons-a-bitches took a short cut and now my dimmer switch doesn't work at all.

And just a heads up, your tail lights may not be coming on either. I believe they're on the same fuse. I got stuck in traffic once trying to go back to school while it was shorted out and I had to drive down I-65 with no gauges or taillights at 9:30 at night. I've never been flashed by so many semi-trucks in my life.

    hahahaha

strange thing, my tail lights work... the dimmer switch actually was fried... it was weird though. I pushed my headlight flip-up button, and all this smoke poured from the dimmer switch... Now the dash lights don't work

Electrical problems can be difficult to find. If you smoked a part then start taking things apart and look for melted wires until you find the fault.

Dash removal is actually easy. You shouldn't need to do that though. The dimmer switch gets a hot feed from a fuse in the fuse box, feeds illumination power to everything in the dash and then goes through the dimmer where the ground circuit dims the lights when you want it to.

I have to go to work... but the wiring is pretty straight forward. I'm surprised a fuse didn't blow. Sounds like a short somewhere.

Vacuum reduction, Powdercoated misc, cruise relocate, Evo9 BOV, Custom catch cans, Russell fuel filter, SS braided fuel lines, High flow fuel loop, Autogage fuel gauge, Catless DP, DNP Y-pipe, Fuel pump hotwire.

    Update

Here is a video to show the mess under my lower dash. Maybe this has something to do with it? Hans, maybe you could chirp in on this? I want to know your opinion. It all looks tampered with.

I was using my phone camera, so theres a part that is just focused on a piece of plastic by accident lol... i apologize for that.
