Just sent you a PM Chatz about this SMIC kit but realised one of the questions I asked is answered here. Also can you please give me an idea on postage price to Cairns, Australia, 4870? also we are still waiting on pics

    Cheers,

For comparison, Genes side mounts are 8x10 and 4.5" thick wit 2" in and out. Despite the long wait these guys are put together well. If I was a perfectionist, I would suggest a stretched end tank into the intake and exit tubes to help distribute the air in the core better and reduce pressure drop. However, these things are huge and in reality are about the equivalent of a 24"x10" 4" core but with better placement with more direct and complete flow thru the core. The action of the front tires also help draw heat out of those corners. Its really tough to judge the capability of sidemounts versus the FMIC because the larger mass of FMIC shows better power gains. My feeling has always been that with the car moving, the theoretically superior position of the sidemounts may be able to outshine a FMIC in practice. I will have these guys in my car along with a nice methanol or water injection setup. I dont think Genes sidemounts are too big, because the point was to make them big, not make it easy to install. He built them with the VR4 front nose (I think first gen) in mind, so Stealth guys have pretty much complained they are too big. My biggest issue is using this sidemount with stock piping. I need to find a nice (cheap ) 2" hardpipe kit

Sadly, there are so many issues with Gene's production problems, otherwise it would probably have been a good intercooler to have. Now a bunch of us are just waiting for our refunds and we don't know when that will be unfortunately.

well, unfortunatly a little bit of a lack of testing....but then when you try something that OUT THERE you end up with weird shit happening...it should honestly be expected.

I'm a little behind the curve on what's goin down with Gene's SMIC kits? Is there some quality control problems out there? I haven't gotten around to fitting them yet so what's the deal? Were the first couple of kits OK? Was he just slappin shit together in the end? What's the story on the refunds? Is that for quality issues or him just not delivering parts?

Any reviews on your SMIC kit or look out for X problems, Sam?

I hadn't heard of any quality issues but I know he didn't finish all the orders and then moved states and hasn't yet refunded the incompleted orders due to various issues.

Well I must say i'm one of the few lucky ones that did get Gene sidemounts. While on vacation in TX I went by his shop an pick them up. When I first saw them I was like Dammmmm those are some big dern sidemounts. The craftsmanship is outstanding. On my way back I drop them off at 3sx to start my latest build. So far they seem to doing ok. I do have couple of pic's with them on the car. once i figure out how to post pic i'll do. So far on a really conservative tune they making 550-540, but I'm switch E85 so hopefully I'll have some dyno # to post in the upcoming days.

Definitely sounds good! If you have time it would be cool if you shared the results. I still have yet to see any real world test results with his sidemounts so it will be interesting to see a comparo. Once I come up with a piping solution I'll post a comparo between Gene's SMIC vs Greddy FMIC vs. Twin feed oohnoo style FMIC along with the AEM data on the AIT and pressure drop.
