    Evil Eye Mod

So I finally got around to getting the Evil Eye mod done. A lot of the people I have seen that have done this mod used fiberglass. I never liked the idea of using fiberglass considering the stock hood is all metal. i ended up using 16 gauge steel and welding everything together.

The other thing I noticed was that most of the evil eye hoods that I had seen the eyelid was level with the hood. Which means the hood bumpers would have to be adjusted to raise the hood up so that the lids would sit on the lights just right. This causes the hood to not sit flush with the fenders. I wanted to be able to make the hood sit flush with the fenders and not have to adjust the bumpers. The idea was to weld on the metal on top of the hood and not flush. That way the hood would still be flush with the fenders.

So I started by rough cutting the sheet metal.

Than grinding it down to the shape I needed.

Here is the little 8x8 shop I have to work in...LOL

Grinding off the paint on my spare hood so that I can weld the eyelids on.

Got the eyelids tacked on now. Remember the eyelids are actually welded on top of the hood not flush with the hood.

First test fit after full welding and grinding. The sheet metal liked to bow a little but form the heat of welding. it took me a little bit to get it all straightened back out so that it would smack the lights every time the hood was shut and so that they would actually sit flat. Notice that the hood is flush with the fenders. I have yet to final align the front bumper ad fenders so I have some room to play with things to get them all aligned correctly.

First coat of body filler and block sanding.

    Glazing compound and final sanding

    Final test fit!

Got some rattle can primer sprayed on to protect things until this weekend when I can get the hood finished and prepped for paint. Primer is still wet so I couldn't shut the hood all of the way.

I'm pretty sure I can fashion up another set. I'll have to see how much steel I have left.

    How do you mean curved??

Curved ones might be a little harder. It is easier to work with the straight edge of the steel. If you are wanting them curved/convexed than that might be a little harder to do as I don't have the best of tools for cutting steel. The eye lids I did were a pain as my damn air saw blade kept twisting and wanting to go it's own way."Might have just been the stupid blade I was using" I'm buying an air nibbler to cut the metal from now on so it should be more precise.

This is the way I would have done the evil eye as well. Looks great and the modified Stealth turns look way better with the Stealth headlights.

Thanks! yeah I love the stealth turns more that the 99's. I still need to finish off the turns but I have to wait now to get the panels/bumper all aligned so I know how much more to fill in the gap on the turns.

yeah, i mean convex. the angle of the curve i hadn't really decided on; but i'm sure if you made a "mirror image" of the piece you had, it would probably be a good start.

i'm just looking for something with curved lines which match the body better.

funny, i'm going the exact opposite direction with my turns. 2g stealth > 99. i'll probably end up clipping my 99 turns.
