    Engines and..stuff.

So I finally found the time to take the pictures of the engines and get out all..most of the spare parts given to me. (MY camera died before I could take pictures of the spare parts though.)

I have to say, honestly, I don't know what the heck I have and if it's worth keeping so I thought I would consult you guys.

I have two engines. One is a turbo, which I think something is wrong with.. and another that is non-turbo. If I am not mistaken, the other part is a transmission.. but beats me.

Here are the pictures I took~

From the pictures you posted all of them are turbo engines. The transmission is a 5-spd "Want to say AWD".

Are you wanting to get rid of them or just find out what they are??

Well, I only need one engine. So at some point I will be getting rid of the other. I am wanting to know what everything is since I don't have any idea on what half of these parts are. I am just waiting on my camera to charge to take pictures of everything else. If I don't need it.. Imight as well get rid of it to get stuff I actually do want for the car, right?

Do you have a Turbo model or N/A?

Do you know if there is anything wrong with the engines?

    Where are you located?

Yes, I have a turbo. That big engine is the one that came out of my car I am pretty sure. The other one is the newer one. I think something is wrong with the bigger one.. a blown gasket? I can't remember.. but there is something wrong with it.

    I am in PA. =3

Did you pull the engine yourself and know that there is an issue or did you buy the car with it already removed?

What indications pointed to the head gasket / what was the engine doing?

No I didn't pull the engine myself. It was already done. I got both engines with the car.. including everything else. I remember being told about it.

I would start by doing a compression test. This will give you a general idea as to if it is indeed a blown head-gasket and the condition of the rings/etc.

You really don't even know if the other engine is even good. I would test them both out and find out if there are any underlying issues. I would also drop the oil pan and see how the bearings look and if there is any metal shaving/flakes in the oil pan. They might be spun bearing engines!

Well, I pray the other one IS good. Or I am going to be a very mad woman. >=( How hard is the compression test? Never done one but it's worth a shot.

    Really easy to do!

You get a pressure tester from an auto store. Remove a spark plug and thread in the tester into the spark plug hole. Crank over the engine a couple times and see what the pressure gauge reads.

Here is a website that has details on how to do it and what the pressure numbers should be:
