If you do the work yourself vss is actually a pretty cheap job.
What do you mean by this? She could see it in the pipe but it didn’t come out??
With the age of the car and the miles it could be the VSS but if it hardly smokes at all then I don’t think I would be too worried about it. Check the PCV valve 1st, that’s very easy to check. Then as Steve said you can start checking other things if you are worried about it. Other things that haven’t been mentioned that you can check are oil in the down pipe and compression check. Are you running cats? It’s pretty normal to get a little smoke now and then when you have an open exhaust.
She saw the smoke at the exhaust outlet, but it barely puffed when I stepped on it after a stop light. It wasn't just flowing/pouring out.
I have an open exhaust, no cats. I had the PCV Valve replaced about 3 weeks ago since it was faulty by 3sx. Haven't looked at the downpipe yet, may try that next.
3sx also replaced the plugs and wires because they were old, but didn't notice anything wrong with the actual plugs themselves other than old age. They also put in brand new 3sxecutioners a few weeks ago.
I did have a bad rear 9b turbo that was leaking oil into the intercooler. They tried to clean out the IC as best as possible. I'm thinking maybe there is some residue still escaping since I've put less than 200 miles on it since I picked it up.
I am not mechanically inclined at all, doing an oil change is about as far as I go, haha. I'd much rather take it to 3sx and let the pros handle it. They pretty much gave me options to choose from and built this car for me. I tried doing my own work on my SL about 8 years ago, and I would end up messing something up everytime.I'm done with having bloody hands.
I modify computers, not cars =/. If you want a 4.5ghz hexacore computer.. I can help with that!
I appreciate all the help guys!

It's ok, you'll end up a mechanic before you know it. It's an inherent trait to owning a 3s
If it is that little I wouldn't sweat it a bunch. Before I gutted my cats I had nothing.. after gutting just a little stuff out the exhaust. If the cats aren't hot and burning up anything that comes through then you should get just a little stuff out the exhaust.
Just my thoughts.
replacing VSS is something that you really don't wanna be doing. even with a "spacial" tools you might need to get mitsubishi kamasutra book to learn some of the positions on how to make it easier. I still hate it every time time memories come back.
