Seal exhaust manifold leak

Hey all,

Is it possible to tighten the bolts on the rear exhaust manifold without removing the turbo?

I have been having this persistent ticking noise coming from the rear of my engine and none of the fixes I have tried have worked: undented the oil pan, 99 lifters, seafoam, etc

Plus I can feel a tonne of hot air coming up from the back of the engine...can't hold my hand there for more than a few seconds. Here's a vid:





When I replaced the front turbo, the bolts were pretty loose on the exhaust manifold and I was thinking the same might be true on the rear. Wondering if it's possible to tightem them without going to the hassle of removing the turbo.

if you are blowing hot exhaust past the manifold gasket you usually are eating away at the gasket material. I have seen heads eaten away by an exhaust leak at the mani. (Old international truck with iron heads). If it is a mani leak I would suggest a new gasket then tighten things back down. I wouldn't know if it was possible to get that on without pulling the rear turbo though.

i dont think its a exhaust leak. i would go to autozone and get a stethscope

The "tick" at idle at about 10 seconds is exhaust. Other noises you are on your own. That thing seems kinda loud with other noises!

Rear manifolds warp and leak out of the ends. The only way to fix it is to take it off and machine the face.

Thanks for the advice...guess the turbo has to come off then. Does the sound in the videos seem like an exhaust leak to you? ...I wan't to be sure that's the problem before undertaking that kind of project.
