Question Questions about shipping an engine. I need advice.

Hey guys, I recently purchased a short block from a NY member and I was put in charge of setting up shipping. Me being me, I have never shipped or have had to setup shipping on a short block.

So, I am wondering what would be a good company to get it shipped down to Texas with. And any other additional information you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance guys.

Do you have the weight on it, if its just the shortblock it might just be withing the weight limit for fedex or UPS, otherwise you'd have to step it up to their freight service.

Not sure what other carriers you guys would have around that would between here and texas regularly.

Thats definitely not within UPS or Fed Ex Weights.

Check out DB Schenker. I shipped an automatic transmission which weighed around 250 lbs crated to Florida for somewhere around $130. If you have a depot near you then you can pick it up there and save $40. If Bill is near a depot and can drop it off that can save even more money.

If you go with UPS Freight or Fed Ex freight it will be closer to $500.

I shipped a 6g74 empty block with accessories on a crate and it weighed about 225 or so. FedEx Freight from Kentucky to New Jersey was $150....

I used to do a lot of shipping of heavy items. You'll need to make sure that the engine is on a pallet and secured very well. I'd also suggest having it plastic wrapped prior to shipping.
Try tnt.com, you'll have to register but that should be able to give you a door to door price. They are a big national carrier, so they go virtually anywhere. You'll also need to make sure that you're shipping to and from commercial addresses that have fork lift access.
