    Could the oil I switched to caused the thrust bearing to go out?

    I was using rotella 15w-40 and swapped to 10w-30 castrol syntec blend. Did about 400 miles on the syntec and started getting a little bit of smoke, pulled the turbs and thats where I found the front thrust bearing starting to go bad. Would this cause it? What oil should I run? Thanks god my IPS turbos are warrantied?

    Oil should not cause bad turbo bearings, in my opion the front was bad from the getgo

    hmm, they were brand new in the box from IPS. What oil should I use then?

    You can't go wrong with RedLine. Personally I would stay away from "Blends" as they are not fully Synthetic like RedLine. As such they can tend to "coke" up if they get overheated and breakdown. Over heating oil is one of the major causes of its breakdown. Regular oil will smoke, and gum up under high heat conditions like in our turbos where Synthetics will continue to lubricate, flow and not break down as easily. Go to the RedLine site:

    Red Line Synthetic Oil

    They have very technical articles that describe why you should be using a fully Synthetic oil in your car and why they are better. They say their oil is so good that you only have to change it every 12,000 miles. Must be pretty tough stuff.

    Not that you have to use "RedLine" specifically but stay fully Synthetic and you can't go wrong no matter what brand you use.

    I don't know for certain about Red Line, but the vast majority of synthetic oils are not 100% synthetic. It is a huge PR/regulatory shell game where manufacturers are allowed to use the term 100% synthetic while actually having small percentages of "dino" oil. "Blends" have relatively larger percentages of "dino" oil. Just make sure you carefully read the entire label for whatever oil you choose so you will know exactly what you are getting.

    Redline is group V and is fully synthetic.

    I never had bad luck with Castrol Syntec 5W-50.

    It was a bad rebuild. Anyone blaming your oil selection in this case is trying to weasel out of the repair.

    your car seems to have a history of blowing turbos. Have all the oil lines been replaced?
