one of the things i really LOVE about this hood (the other being that it flows better with a 3/s than the top-secret/gt300, imho). maybe i can get scoob to splice it into a stock hood so i can have the best of all worlds.

and the top 1/3 of that opening is fake. it's simply covering the crashbar which would be exposed by the opening. for those who want to keep the stock crashbar w/o modifying it--i'd say that the 97-98 bumper with the center post cut out is probably equivalent.

yes, and if you're going to do that, you'll probably end up cutting your bumper anyway; which begs the question, why start with a 99?

see the problem here is that we have quantified results from switching from SMIC to FMIC, as was posted above. what we DON'T have is quantified results from switching from 97-98 to 99 bumper WITH THE SAME FMIC setup.

my guess? there might be a difference...but it's so small that it's inconsequential. you'd have to remove the crashbar cover and either cut the crashbar or put in the tubular one. i'm not going to do either one on a DD; so i stand by my original assertion.

there is no question that the 99 opening is the largest once the crashbar cover is cut out. If you like the 97-98 bumper more and would rather keep it, that is fine, but if all you care about is the best cooling then the cut 99 is the only way to go for factory bumper covers.

The 99 crashbar cover can be cut without any paintwork, there is no way you can cut up a 97-98 cover to be as big without bodywork and new paint.

There is no need to justify your desire to keep your current bumper, it is personal preference.

forest, i agree 100%. my assertion was purely that if you're going to keep the crashbar completely unmolested, the difference between the two (or even between any of the 2g 3kgt bumpers) is rather negligable. the 94-96 bumper actually has a WIDER front opening than the 97-99's. (stealths obviously have the crosshair which blocks a lot of airflow).

once you decide on airflow > everything else; there's no question that the 99 makes the most sense, at least as far as how much modification you'll have to do.
