    RTV huh..

Used the stuff from auto zone. Everywhere I used it during my rebuild is leaking. Sweet. Don't use Permatex, period.

I've used gray permatex rtv several times on oil pans with no leaking issues. I also use a different kind of permatex thread sealer on fuel line products, works great for me. Not trying to be a dick but maybe there's a bit of operator error involved? I know it can be tricky to put the oil pan on without catching the freshly RTV'd edge on the oil pickup, thus smearing everywhere and destroying chances of a good seal.

Never had a problem with Permatex.

I've used the cheap stuff and 'The Right Stuff' without issues. Maybe you didn't clean the surfaces properly? Or something warped from overheating? Or the temperature it reached was higher than the RTV you selected was designed for?

It's designed for 650f. I spent a lot of hours scraping off old gasket until all I seen was nice clean shiny metal on EVERY mating surface. I guess it just got too hot.

black or grey is for oil, blue is for h2o, red/copper made to resist heat. i like permatex black for the pan not the silicone but the bottle called the right stuff. get the 15min set time as the 1 min is kinda short unless you are a fucking pan master like me!
