    calling all DSM experts

please take a look at these pics and tell me if the transfer case i'm currently using is, in fact, identical to that on the eclipse/talon AWD. (it's the one in the center).

why mitsu gave our 1st gen TT's an aluminum t-case housing, and this 91-92 n/a t-case an iron housing, makes zero sense to me. another thing to note is that the non-turbo t-case is the same one used in AWD DSM's (manual or ATX).

the thread this is from, for reference:
    Inperfectdarkness AWD ATX Conversion!

what i'd like to ask is for verification that shooter83 (evan) is correct, and that this transfer case is, in fact, identical to the DSM transfer case. i ask, because i'm about to pull the trigger on one of these--and i want to make absolutely certain it's the right one:

Looks exactly the same as a DSM t-case. Any idea which spline # you have? I'm way too tired now to figure it out...

no, i don't have any idea. and the odd thing is, i don't see any differentiation on the QDH9B--at least on some sites. *edit* bonehead performance lists 90-99 for applications on this. *edit* quaife's site doesn't list years. i tried counting teeth on the shafts, but i didn't end up with 25 for either the 5-speed or 6-speed, so i don't think i'm counting it right.

i mean, i'm sure it will fit inside the case, but i'm not sure it will work with the trans & driveshaft--and that's really what i'm trying to figure out.

The teeth # for VR4s refers to the teeth on the output shaft of the trans. The spline count on the driveshaft is... way too lazy to count them now, and I don't recall off the top of my head what they have.

ok. well thanks for the help. hopefully someone else can have some input.

the pic on quaife's website doesn't exactly resemble what supercar's center diff looks like; and that's throwing me too. i wouldn't expect them to be interchangeable parts--but i would have thought they'd look somewhat similar.

They are the same as an Automatic DSM t-case. An all aluminum housing t-case is a 22 spline, the t-case with the front cast iron housing is a 23 spline.

care to explain why? near as i can tell, all AWD DSM's share the same transfer case; regardless of atx or mtx.

It doesn't matter what T/case is bolted to it, The center diff goes inside the transaxle... The manual and auto versions are not even close to being the same construction.
