Def. avoid carbs I did this the summer after HS and dropped 30 w/o excersizing. It's not easy though carbs are in everything even carrots!

My wife and I have done Atkins, HCG, slimfast, and a few others.

It comes down to finding a lifestyle change that makes you breath (burn calories) and intake a "balanced" level of nutrition and calories.

I am still searching for that balance where it is automatic and takes no effort. The biggest problem is I spend vast amounts of mental energy at work and am lazy when it comes to my health. I know right!

I need to shed about 30 to get to where I was after 3 month of HCG.

    Comittment, balance, exercise!

No Shortcuts to get around that!

I know what I have to do to lose the weight.
8 years ago I was exactly where I'm at now in weight and bad habbits.
WHEN I finally decided to change the things that were unhealthy I lost 60lbs in less then 6 months and kept it off for a long time.

Like you said about your work I'm emotionally exhausted by the time I get home and I just want to zone out.
I know that if I go downstairs and exercise that a lot of that tension would probably go away but I still don't do it.
Why? Probably because I would have to think about how to turn the VCR on and I don't want to think about anything.

It has to be a lifestyle change and even though I want it I know for experiance how much effort it really takes so I just keep making excuses.

Eating healthy and enjoying your meals do not have to be mutually exclusive. It is especially easy if you love fish and chicken. I recently started counting calories and watching what I eat, and it is not difficult.

    I pay attention to:

Calories (2200 to maintain my weight, assuming 0 exercise)
Protein (more is better, especially if you workout)
Sodium (hard to avoid, less is better for your heart)
    Sat. Fat (less is better)

and that's pretty much it. Carbs I watch too, but there is debate on whether or not you need them (yes if you workout out, no if you don't is what generally I have read) as there are different kinds and timing matters

I have replaced ground turkey for ground beef, so I still get to enjoy tacos and chili and pasta w/meat sauce, etc. it's not hard to get started, you just need to be motivated and I recommend using some sort of app for your smartphone if you have one, or at least a website that will help you track things.

It is a lifestyle change, but it doesn't have to be a sudden shock to your system. Ease into it. Also, look into multi-vitamins, green tea, and fish oil supplements for daily use.

Untrue, Unless you mean dropping the morning bagel or biscuits and gravy. The ONLY thing I did was avoid carbs, that was it! I didn't exercise, I didn't quit drinking, I didn't totally quit carbs ether. I also didn't cram a pound of bacon down my throat.

I had a partner at work that had the same name but was huge and bald, the exact opposite of me. We ate lunch every day together. He would eat grilled cheese and tater tots while I'd eat meat and vegetables. Over the years of eating together I noticed he didn't eat that much (I ate more than him) but everything was high carb. We were total polar opposite in the way we ate, he was huge and I....well, pretty thin now.

I guess you summed up what O meant by lifestyle change.

Meaning if you diet, get to where you want to be, then continue with the habits pre-diet, you will just rebound to where you where.

You must decide on a diet plan, whatever it may be, and change your habits to permanently accommodate your new way of living. (lifestyle)

Anyone can lose weight, but without the fore mentioned, successfully staying there is not going to happen.

It's simply calorie intake - calories used = weight gain/loss

Im 6'1 and weigh about 235. when I was in the marines i was 190 with 6% bodyfat. sgh...miss those days. I want to get to 215-220 for the race season I exercise and play basketball and softball, but I do eat like shit. 2 yrs ago, i did bannana at 7am, yogurt at 10, 6" sub with wheat, turkiey and swiss with mustard. apple at 4pm and then a good dinner. water only, no pop and /or junk food. I was at 255 and went to 226. ran 2 miles a day everyday, 100 situps, and did awesome. We did it as a bet, my wife and I vs our friends and who ever lost, had to pay for plane tickets to vegas. We won, and they paid for out tickets and we have a timeshare in vegas so we got a nice room at the Grand Desert. Im back to 235-240 so i need to stop eating jack in the box 3 times per week. Just be smart about it. Luckily, im a big guy and my daughters boyfriends are terrified of me. (13 yr old daughter) ughhh

I see your point, I just feel the whole lifestyle change thing is a bit over the top when all you have to do is not eat X. Just the mention of "Lifestyle change" makes me say to hell with it.

Ya, but she was kinda like out of it. She still did good, but only scored 8 pts. Huge let down compared to last games 20 pts. I asked her after the game if she was feeling ok, if anything was wrong, then she said no, I know I sucked and looked as if she was gonna cry. Lol, i was like babe, its ok, everyone has an off game or two. Just get em next game. LOL my 13 yr old is so sensitive. My 5 yr old just says MOM! if I say no, and my little boy is gonna be my stud. hes awesome

    OK.
This maybe what I'm looking for.
I'll put myself out there to test these theories.
Together we will decide my diet and exercise.
I'll post up my weight and and what I eat daily.
And exercise if you can talk me into it....
I'll decide on Sunday if I have enought positive support
