anyone here done a harness swap?

how involved is it to pull a 2g n/a engine harness and replace it with a 1g tt engine harness? the engine will be pulled for this.

i'm sick of running resistors (they are fugly sons of bitches) on my injectors. i can't use a resistor pack without the tt-harness apparently; so that's why i'm looking into doing this.

on a side note, i haven't heard from shooter83 in eons, so i may end up shipping this to 3sx to have the tcu properly spliced in. is it better to have 3sx install it too; or just have them do the splicing? if swapping a harness is pretty straightforward with the engine pulled, i'd rather do it myself.

I have done it on my FWD TT. Really simple to do. The only modification I had to do to the harness was to wire in the front O2 sensor as the N/A front body harness does not have the front O2 connector. Everything else plugs right in! You will have to get a rear injector harness also as the plugs on the N/A Harness are different.

I'm pretty sure thats all I had to do!

I don't know about splicing in the TCU. Mine was done on a ATX converted MTX FWD TT. All TCU wiring was gone when I removed the N/A engine harness. I don't see it to be to complected as long as you are good at reading wiring diagrams and ECU Pin-outs

wait...the injector harnesses are separate? can i wire the resistors to the harnesses instead of at the injectors then? that would be WAY easier & i wouldn't have to re-invent tcu splicing.

3sx was telling me that i could run a resistor pack off the firewall if i had the harness (but didn't specify WHICH harness). this is really what i'm looking to do. i want to keep the area around the plenum clean. it looks like canned ass on my motor currently.

The front bank injector harness is part of the main engine wiring harness. The rear one is a short harness that plugs into the main harness where those three plugs are on the intake plenum. The rear injector harness plug on the TT's is different than the ones on the N/A so you would need to swap out the rear injector harness.

^ that, I remember seeing a DIY replacement for the rear injector harness on the "other" side a long time ago, but the front ones are part of the main harness

    It's a viable option.

Personally, I'd source the spare harness. Then, remove every single wire that won't be used, things like EGR, ECS, or whatever. Then swap that in the car. There's miles of wiring that you probably don't use. When it's ready, replace, and sell your old harness.

i would certainly consider it. my chief concern is having to re-wire the TCU to work with everything; and i don't want to do that.
